Our agreement with you

Entered into between Marlowe & Fenn LLP and every client who walks through the door.

1. Undertakings of the Firm

1.1

We answer the phone the day you call.

A lawyer calls you back, not a machine. Same day, before we go home.

1.2

You will know the cost before we begin.

A number, in writing, before any clock starts. Our fee schedule is public.

1.3

You will never leave a meeting confused.

Ask us to say it plainer. We will, as many times as it takes. That is the job.

1.4

Your file is handled by the lawyer you hired.

The person you meet is the person who does the work.

The oxblood marks translate legal drafting into plain English. Try one.

2. Execution

Signed and sealed at Bellwood, BC, since 1987.

Est. 1987

Four lawyers, one office

Fees in writing before work begins

Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 5:00

Dominion Avenue, Bellwood's two-block brick main street, in morning light with forested mountains behind
Plate IDominion Avenue, eight in the morning

4. The cost conversation, in writing

Most people put off calling a lawyer because nobody will tell them the price. Ours is published. Flat fees where the work allows it, hourly rates stated plainly where it does not, and no surprise bills either way.

Residential purchase
$1,200 to $1,500
Residential sale
$950 to $1,250
Refinance
$900 to $1,150

Figures sit still on this site. They are promises, not fireworks.

The full fee schedule
Any estimate that needs to change gets explained before more work happens. In writing, like everything else here.

Clause 4.6, Our Terms With You

5. The parties of the first part

Photographed where they actually work, above Dominion Avenue, not in a rented boardroom. The engraved seal beside each signature is the one that closes your documents.

6. What happens next

The part nobody explains. Here is the whole path from this page to a resolved matter, numbered like everything else we put in writing.

  1. 6.1

    You call, we answer

Tell us what happened in your own words. Ten minutes, no charge, and we tell you honestly whether you need a lawyer at all.

  2. 6.2

    A number, in writing

Before any work begins you receive the fee, flat or estimated, on one page you can keep. No clock starts until you say so.

  3. 6.3

    The work, explained

You hear from us at every step that matters, in plain English, and the file ends with a written summary of what was done.

7. Commencement

This agreement takes effect the day you call. We will be at the office Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 5:00.
